Las Cruces Real Estate | Throwback Thursday - White Sands

The white sand dunes of White Sands National Monument located approximately 50 miles east of Las Cruces are unique not only to the area, but the whole world. These sands are rare because they are not made of quartz grains like most beaches are. They are made of almost pure gypsum. These sand dunes are unique, because gypsum sand can only be found in one other location on Earth. Gypsum  is soluble in water, meaning it dissolves in water unlike quartz sand. Gypsum also does not absorb heat, so even on the hottest day, the sand at the Monument will stay cool, unlike most beach sands you might experience. White Sands is another unique feature that makes Las Cruces an unbeatable place to live.
