Las Cruces Real Estate | Historical Fact - State Grass
It may come as a surprise to some people that New Mexico has a designated state grass. The official state grass of New Mexico is called the Blue Grama. Occurring in all 33 counties in New Mexico, this grass thrives in the warm weather and usually grows about 1 foot in height, but can get as tall as 4 feet. Don’t be fooled by the name, this grass is not blue. This grass has curling comb-like spikes at the top that can sometimes appear a purple color and that is likely where the name comes from. Next time you’re out and about, keep an eye out for this species of grass.
