Las Cruces Real Estate | Historical Fact - Pluto

In 2006, Pluto was officially named a dwarf planet by the International Astronomical Union because it did not meet certain criteria to hold its title as a planet. But not everyone agreed with this. In the state of New Mexico, Pluto is still considered a planet and not a dwarf planet. Pluto was discovered in 1930 by renowned astronomer Clyde Tombaugh while working at an observatory here in our city of Las Cruces. People felt that to show respect to Clyde Tombaugh and his memory, the state of New Mexico should continue to recognise Pluto as a planet.
