Most people know Las Cruces and the Mesilla Valley area for their farming of chile and the vast pecan orchards that we have here. But in the earliest days of farming, the Mesilla Valley also farmed cotton. In the years before the 1960’s cotton was the most widely farmed crop in most places, and Las Cruces was no different. This area farmed a lot of cotton before other popular crops took over such as chile and pecans.
